Activities Report

The Chennai Dental Research Foundation (CDRF) had its inception on 03-03-2004 and is registered under section 12A of the Income Tax Act, 1961 on 28-12-2005. Registration Certificate No: DITC (E) No: 2 (197)/05-06.

Infra Structure:

CDRF has a well-equipped tissue culture and Biochemistry lab. It has sophisticated instruments like the Laminar Chamber, Incubator, Autoclave, Centrifuge, Deep Freezers, Inverted Phase Contrast Microscope and Fluorescent Microscope.

CDRF also has the infrastructure needed for data analysis and epidemiological studies, like computers with special software and 24-hour Internet access.


Appendix I

Activities:

  • A study was conducted on the prevalence of periodontal disease among Diabetics in collaboration with M.V. Diabetes Hospital from August 2004 to April 2005.
  • A study on the prevalence of tobacco use was conducted from 24th October 2005 to 14th November 2005 at Sriperambudur Taluk.
  • A field study was conducted in collaboration with M.V. Diabetes Hospital on the correlation between salivary flow rate & Diabetes.
  • Dental camps were conducted on the 21st and 23rd of January 2006 at Ambattur Rotary Hospital.
  • Dental camps were conducted on 27th and 31st of January 2006 at Children’s Garden School.
  • Dental camps were conducted on 8th and 22nd of April 2006 at Kotturpuram.
  • A dental camp was conducted on 18th July 2006 at Olcott Memorial High School, Besent Nagar.
  • An oral health-screening programme was conducted on 29th November 2006 at Padmaseshadri Bala Bhavan School.
  • Dental camps were conducted on 27th January and 4th February 2007 at C.S.I. Gondie Hostel at Thiruvallur.
  • A dental camp was conducted on 30th January 2007 at C.S.I. Jessie Moses School Hostel at Anna Nagar.
  • A dental camp was conducted on 7th February 2007 at C.S.I. Monahan Girls Hostel, Royapettah.
  • A dental camp was conducted on 11th February 2007 at C.S.I. Boys Hostel, Arakonam and C.S.I. Home for Boys, Kancheepuram.
  • CDRF is a member of the Head & Neck Cooperative Research Group that is currently working on sub-mucous fibrosis.

Appendix III

Current on-going projects:

  • CDRF is one of the centres for Phase II, Randomised, Double –Blind, placebo controlled, chemo-preventive study to determine the clinical efficacy and safety of Curcumin in oral pre-malignant lesions.
  • In the tissue culture lab, currently a study is going on phenotypic alterations and growth curve of Fibroblast cells.
  • A case control study on the prevalence of severe periodontal disease and adverse pregnancy outcome.
