Successful endodontic management has to be completed with an adequate post endodontic restoration to make the pulpless teeth function as an integral part of the masticatory apparatus. The cumulative loss of tooth structure from caries, trauma and endodontic procedures combined with the loss of structural integrity contribute to fracture of the tooth. The need for careful post endodontic restoration is reflected in the fact that more teeth are treated endodontically, develop problems or are lost because of failure of root canal treatment itself. Ideally, the final restoration should be planned before the root is begun, although it might be necessary to modify the restorative plan as treatment progresses.

The program highlights these complex relationships and describes the various restorative materials and techniques that are available to aid our efforts in restoring functional, occlusal and esthetic harmony.
