An oral biopsy is a safe, straightforward procedure where we take a small tissue sample from your mouth and send it to a lab for testing. It's the gold standard — the most reliable way — to diagnose suspicious spots, ulcers, or patches in your mouth that haven't healed within two weeks.
Why would you need a biopsy?
Most sores or patches in your mouth are harmless and heal on their own. But sometimes, a spot doesn't go away — and that's when we need to investigate.
We recommend a biopsy if you have:
Ulcers that won't heal after 2–3 weeks
White or red patches that appeared suddenly and aren't going away
Lumps or thickened areas in your cheek, tongue, or gums
Persistent rough or irritated spots that you keep biting or rubbing
Any change in your mouth tissue that looks unusual or concerning
The biopsy gives us a definitive answer. It tells us exactly what's going on — whether it's something simple like inflammation, a benign growth, or something that needs further treatment.
Results: Lab reports typically come back within 5–7 days. We'll call you to discuss the findings.
Oral biopsies are routine, low-risk procedures. Complications are rare, and the area usually heals within a week.
Why early diagnosis matters:
If something's not right, catching it early makes all the difference. A biopsy gives us clarity and peace of mind — and if treatment is needed, we can start right away.
Don't ignore persistent changes in your mouth. A quick biopsy can rule out serious issues or catch them early when they're most treatable.
