General Anesthesia

General Anesthesia

General Anesthesia is a great treatment alternative in pediatric patients who have multiple treatments and who refuse to stay still during the procedure.

General anesthetics bring about a reversible loss of consciousness and analgesia. The patient is completely out of consciousness during the procedure. General anesthesia is usually done in cases where the treatment time is expected to be longer, in cases with significant blood loss, when the patient has certain co-morbidities that make general anesthesia a chosen alternative over conscious sedation. The other benefits of General anesthesia includes analgesia, or removing the natural response to pain, skeletal muscle relaxation, immobility or the removal of motor reflexes by skeletal muscle relaxation, amnesia, or memory loss.

Pre-surgical evaluation

Patients will have a pre-surgery assessment with the anesthetist, before general anesthesia is administered. This is to use determine the most appropriate drugs to, the quantities of those drugs and in which combination. Assessment includes Inspection of mouth, dental and airway; observation of neck flexibility and head extension, past medical history, any underlying medical condition and various other parameters. This will be helpful to assess whether the patient is fit to go through general anesthesia without complications or not. Necessary precautions will be taken depending on the Risk Quotient of the case.

General anesthesia is a great treatment alternative in pediatric patients who have multiple treatments and who refuse to stay still during the procedure. It is also very useful in oral and maxillofacial surgery cases that require extensive treatment and time.

Operation theater facilities in the same clinic area is a great benefit for administering general anesthesia in pediatric dentistry and advanced dental implant & surgical procedures. In such scenarios pre-surgical assessment and treatment can be done under the same roof.
