An orthopantomogram (OPG) is a panoramic dental X‑ray that captures both your upper and lower jaws in one wide image. It’s a quick screening tool we use at Rajan Dental in Chennai to assess your overall oral health.
- What it shows: All teeth, surrounding bone, and jaws, helping us detect cavities, infections, cysts, impacted teeth, and bone loss in a single scan.
- When we use it: Before orthodontic treatment, wisdom tooth evaluation, gum disease treatment, or comprehensive dental planning.
- Limitations: As a 2D image, some structures overlap and measurements aren’t fully precise, so we use 3D CBCT for exact implant or surgical planning.
- How it’s done: You sit or stand with your chin supported while the X‑ray arm rotates around your head for about 15–20 seconds; it is quick and painless.
