Tamil Nadu's ban on Gutka and Pan Masala was applauded by dentists all over the state. "The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's announcement marks a huge step in the battle against Oral Cancer. In the same tempo, even non-tobacco processed Areca nut products such as paan masala should be banned as these are showing an alarming increase in oral pre-cancer conditions such as submucous fibrosis in Tamil Nadu." says Dr. Gunaseelan Rajan, who devotes considerable resources towards oral cancer and pre-cancer research.
